Founded in 2001, Interior Architecture is one of the newest departments in the oldest technical university of Turkey. The rapidly changing aims and tools of the Interior Architectural profession and education has motivated the department for constant self-critique. Consequently the inter-institutional platform of collaboration and interaction provided by the IMIAD Programme has motivated the department to commence graduate level education in 2006 as one of the five founding institutions of the IMIAD – International Master’s Programme of Interior Architectural Design.

The department is on its way to define its distinctive place within a well founded school of architecture. In this goal we focus on design issues and research areas of the Istanbul, a city of cosmopolitan history and contemporary metropolitan conditions.

Graduate education is based on Design Studios which are seen as the pivot to coordinate the supporting lectures. The studio ambiance centres upon rigorous and critical design exercises related to cultural heritage, revitalization and identity and is supported by the guest professionals and critiques from a spectrum of design disciplines.
