The Institute of Design has a 100-year history in design education. The institute has a clear profile and a strong identity: "We educate professionals to work in society and business with the ability to design and give concrete and visually perceivable form to objects, communication and services in our society."

The degree programmes in design and communication are essentially based on the visual arts and the humanities. The major subjects in design are jewellery and object design, fashion design, furniture design, industrial design, interior architecture, package design and graphics. The communication majors are film and television, graphic design, multimedia production and photography. Co-operation is a key word for us. Through co-operation we transfer tacit knowledge. Communality is the basis for ethical and cognisant exploration. Keen project work with the companies makes up only one part of the action.

We learn by doing, making, experimenting and inventing. This is what the IMIAD programme is about.
