Situated in south Switzerland Lugano draws its influences from its geographical location between the Alps and the northern part of Italy. The main influence regarding interior architecture are the architectural tradition of Switzerland and particularly the canton Ticino as well as the design culture of Milan.

As an University of Applied Sciences, SUPSI is involved in technical and higher education, research and business services:

• Three-year undergraduate courses culminating in a Bachelor degree
• Further education courses ranging from post-graduate Masters degrees to specialised vocational courses for working professionals
• Applied research projects, technology development and transfer in collaboration with businesses, institutes and other universities

A new Master in Interaction Design will start at fall 2008. The didactic emphasis of the course in interior architecture is to impart the essential requirements of the discipline – its technical and professional foundations, a contextual and theoretical knowledege and the concrete practice in studio design.
